For how long were you thinking about having a baby?
For 8 years, before I took the first step.
Why did you decide to undergo fertility treatment at the StorkKlinik?
Mainly because of the newspaper story, then I looked at StorkKlinik webstie and really liked what I read. They offered me an informal Skype meeting, after that meeting I knew it was the right clinic to use.
Do you know the sperm donor of your child or is he anonymous/open?
No, I chose Denmark mainly because I wanted the Sperm donor to be anoymous, in the UK - it was not permitted. But also I liked the 'romantic' idea of going overseas and that my twin boys were of Scandinavian blood. I only wanted the Sperm donor to be tall and StorkKlinik helped to find a donor for me. Which I found very relaxing, rather than stressing on which donor. They took away my worries, and now I have 2 beautiful boys.
What were the reactions of your friends, and family during and after your fertility treatment?
My family knew right in the beginning on my intentions and they were very supportive, in terms of transporting me to the airport etc. Helping me with my new house, when I was pregnant etc. They were delighted when I was about to start trying. Only about 4 friends knew I was trying, because I wanted it to be private and also it may not work. I didn't want to consume all my friends the full story.
How would you explain the atmosphere at StorkKlinik?
It is lovely there, I love the whiteness and the layout of the clinic. I went to visit a clinic in UK and found it very hospital like and it was not very homey. I left quickly.
Which words best describe the team working at the StorkKlinik?
From the reception staff, midwives, doctors and technicians. They always had time for me and my questions, they were so gentle and reassuring. With kind faces and they spoke perfect English. I am Deaf and I could lipread the staff quite confidently.
Who was your biggest support during your fertility treatment?
I couldn't say the name, as I saw many different people at the clinic. I have been going to the clinic for 3 years, so I saw many people. But I felt I was supported at all times, even by emails.
Which situation gave you the most hope and when did you experience fear and anxiety?
The number of egg extraction, when they say they took out over 10 eggs - I was always hopeful.
What advice can you give to other single women that are in the same situation as you?
Be realistic, set targets and be positive. Realistic - because it may not work. Set targets - because I limited myself with 6 vials of sperm, after the 6th one I was planning to stop and look into adoption. It worked after the 4th vial. Be positive - because if you fail, you try again and look ahead, looking behind will only bring more anxiety and doubts.
How does – in your opinion - the fertility treatment of a single woman differentiate from a fertility treatment of a couple?
I deal with the emotions on my own and normally it passes by quickly, there is no second person to discuss with and I feel that will hinder my path. I was focus and I felt at ease with my journey to become a single mother.
How is your overall experience with StorkKlinik?
Amazing! I can't wait to share my experience with my twin boys when they older enough to understand. I felt the whole experience was a romantic one. The country is beautiful and StorkKlinik gave me two little viking boys.
